As with many of us, my involvement in my current field of work is part by design, part steered by events and circumstances.
My younger years in the country of my birth (Netherlands, 1960) were dedicated to organic agriculture and bio-dynamic farming. This is what eventually also brought me to South Africa.
In my late 20’s I became aware of a different interest within me, and I spent the following four years learning and working as a hospital nurse in Cape Town and as a sales consultant with Weleda’s Natural Remedies’ Centre in the same city.
Several community initiatives in the country side of the Western Cape motivated me to move there at the end of 1992 and participate in a range of projects, such as a local children’s home and Waldorf School.
I was very fortunate to further my training in holistic massage and Reiki, and the highlight during that work was my ten-year position as the in-house therapist at Temenos Retreat.
As time went by however, I became severely hindered in the physical aspects of my work by a chronic lower spine condition as the result of an accident from many years before. This presented a defining moment for me, and an earlier wish to deepen my personal work with people became a necessity.
Training as a Life Coach through New Insights was the first step in redesigning my life, followed by a qualification in counselling through a UK institute.
The main theme I have encountered in my caring work is that there is a reciprocal relationship between the nature and severity of the challenges we encounter in our life and the strength and calibre of the inner potential we have for transformation. But it is often only with outside help that we can awaken that potential.

Aside from my work, I greatly enjoy quality time with my wife Patricia, photography and reading astronomy, cosmology and philosophy.
“Each one of us, we have within us the resources to be at peace and fulfilled.
We encounter problems in life so that we may discover and embrace our
highest potential. It is in our heart and soul where we find that which makes
each person special and beautiful and shine with our own light.”
